During an interview with MetroNews Talkline, Joe Manchin revealed that the White House put out hit pieces to punish him for not supporting Biden’s Build Back Better Act. Releasing damaging reporting on members of your own party is a bullying tactic that you would expect from Vladamir Putin, not the democratically “elected” President of the United States.
Joe Manchin did not reveal precisely what the White House released but stated that Biden’s staff leaked “absolutely inexcusable” information after rejecting Build Back Better in an interview with Fox News. When speaking on the matter, Manchin stated:
This is staff. And they drove some things and they put some things out that were absolutely inexcusable. And they know what it is. And that’s it…They figured, surely to God we can move one person. We can badger and beat up one person…Well, guess what? I’m from West Virginia. I’m not from where they’re from. And they just beat the living crap out of people and think they’ll be submissive, period
From this statement, it is clear that Biden’s bullying tactics won’t work on the proud West Virginian. As Manchin has stated at length, he won’t vote for anything that he can’t go home and explain to his constituents. Build Back Better is a bill that spends trillions of dollars during an inflationary crisis, something that he believes will damage the average West Virginian.
If Manchin were to vote for Build Back Better (BBB), it would end his political career. The only reason he is a Democrat Senator from West Virginia is that he promised to govern as a moderate. Take a look at this tweet from Nate Silver, founder of the famous polling website FiveThirtyEight, as it explains Manchin’s vote on BBB: “
If you believe statements such as "polls show BBB is super popular in West Virigina!" then I have a bridge over the Monongahela River to sell you. BBB polls just barely better than breakeven nationally. It is not going to be popular in a state Biden lost by 39 points.

Sherrilyn Ifill’s tweet seems to best encapsulate how Democrats are handling the collapse of BBB in the Senate. According to leftists like Ifill, Manchin is single-handedly obstructing democracy. This view overlooks the apparent fact that Machin is not alone in voting against BBB. BBB will fail in the Senate to a 49-51 vote.
Manchin is Manchin. But what kind of healthy democracy is structured in a way that can allow one man elected by 290,000 voters in one of the least populous states to thwart the agenda of his party and the President who was elected with 81 million votes. We need structural change.

By voting against Build Back Better, Manchin is being loyal to his constituents rather than being loyal to Washington elites. However, leftists cannot stand any deviation from their radical agenda and are screeching that his vote signals the demise of democracy.
Just take a look at some of these tweets from prominent Democrats:
If Manchin is no on both BBB and voting, Biden is done. Democracy is hanging by a thread. Hard to think of anyone more destructive

When Democrats fail to pass their agenda, they rarely take a moment to reflect on their misguided aims. Instead, they state that the entire political system must be changed to be “more democratic, aka rigged in their favor. MSNBC anchor Lawrence O’Donnell recommended just that in a tweet:
A “healthy democracy” would not have a Senate with 2 per state. (Or an Electoral College.) https://t.co/dxnmZ58y7c
— Lawrence O'Donnell (@Lawrence) December 19, 2021
In a way, they are correct because the United States is not a pure democracy, nor should we want it to be. Our founders created this great nation as a federal democratic republic. If the United States were a pure majoritarian democracy, the minority political party would have zero influence on politics.
If Lawrence O’Donnell were to get his way, the President of the United States would be elected by the most populous cities of New York and California, quickly turning our nation into a Marxist hell hole.
Though we can all be grateful that Build Back Better will collapse in the Senate, expect to see the radical left move to restructure all fundamental institutions of our society. These attempts will come in the form of packing the Supreme Court, killing the filibuster, and eliminating the electoral college.
