However, another great victory is the election of Winsome Sears to Lieutenant Governor. Winsome Sears’ victory is especially historic as she is the first woman of color to hold the position. While this is certainly something for the republican party and Virgnians to be proud of, Sears’ ethnicity and sex are not her most impressive attributes.
Unlike leftist racial essentialists, conservatives value the strength of an individual’s character over their immutable characteristics. This is why Sears is growing so popular among the republican base. Winsome Sears was born in Kingston, Jamaica and immigrated to the United States at the age of 6. When her family arrived, her father only had $1.75 to his name. Despite economic struggles, her family worked hard and educated themselves to become successful in the land of the free.
Sears has led a full life in which she has played a multitude of crucial roles in our society. For one, she proved her dedication to freedom through her service in the U.S. Marine Corps. As if that wasn’t enough, in her civilian life she continued her dedication to the public good by serving as the director of a women’s homeless shelter for The Salvation Army. Sears has always been a person who cares for the downtrodden of society. She further proved her commitment to public service as the leader of a men’s prison ministry, guiding lost individuals back to the Christian faith.
