The war on Conservatives is heating up, with CNN now openly airing a campaign to remove Newsmax from all platforms. Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter held a panel discussion on ”How to cover extremism without amplifying it.” In that discussion, former Facebook chief security officer Alex Stamos joined Stelter and former United States Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Christopher Kreb, as they unpacked the issue of what to do about Conservative platforms.
“People have so much choice now,” Stamos explained. “They can choose what their news sources are. They can choose what Influencers they want to follow.”
He continued to say that the broad leeway given to people with a very broad range of political views, has allowed for radicalism to emerge. He pointed to the emergence of competition for Fox News from OAN and Newsmax as proof of this radicalism. These platforms, he explained, prove that any hint of realism is rejected by Conservatives who are in such election denial that they would prefer to create their own reality. That alternate reality is then reinforced through platforms like OAN and Newsmax.
The solution?
Stamos recommends locking this form of “extremism” down the same way as One would lock down on ISIS. To be clear, the “extremism” he is referring to is OAN and Newsmax.
This will not happen without challenges, Stamos cautions. After all, while ISIS did not have a “domestic constituency” this form of extremism does. In fact any members of Congress who voted to reject the electoral votes represent this very real threat on the same level ISIS does.
A good start would be, “to turn down the capability of these conservative influencers to reach these huge audiences. There are people on YouTube that have larger daytime audiences than CNN.”
Stamos made a point of acknowledging that these companies do have freedom of speech. However, he is not a fan of Verizon, AT&T or Comcast facilitating this free speech by streaming OAN and Newsmax to their consumers.
First Twitter, Facebook and Amazon simultaneously silenced our President and the network of Conservative voices with the biggest audiences or members. Now the Far Left is moving down the line.
CNN’s leftwing media critic, Oliver Darcy, dedicated at least one column to the dangers of allowing platforms like Newsmax, Fox, and OAN to continue broadcasting. He explained his position by noting that these platforms are responsible for spreading the lies that, “helped prime President Trump’s supporters into not believing the truth: That he lost an honest and fair election.”
Neither Darcy’s column nor Stelter’s panel addressed any of the coverage they allotted to what has now been proven to be false claims of Russian collusion, upon which the President was impeached the first time. Nor did they discuss any of the sworn affidavits, the video submissions or data evidence, or the recent arrest of a woman shown in Project Veritas videos explaining how she harvests ballots for candidates who pay her.
