Steven Rauch loved his daughter, and lost her in a police shootout. He’d already lost her to addiction, but with her death came the painful reality that he would never have her back.
Steven told the media that his daughter began using drugs at just 14 years old, and addiction grabbed hold of her.
As anyone who has overcome addiction or watched loved one struggle through it can attest, addiction changes every aspect of life. Some people appear to function just fine while hiding their addiction. Others, though, spiral out of control and engage in behavior that harms not only themselves, but victimizes others.
In Farrah’s case, she began abusing drugs and cutting herself after her parents’ divorce.
News reports state that Farrah and her 17 year old boyfriend ran away together, committed several crimes in different states, crossing paths with police several times. They then stole a truck in Oklahoma, which led to a police chase.
The police chased them until the teens crashed the stolen vehicle and fled on foot. That, according to reports, is when Farrah opened fire on the police officers, who returned fire and killed her. Farrah’s boyfriend then shot himself.
Her heartbroken father told reporters that he invited the four officers and their police chief to his daughter’s funeral and asked them to speak because he knows they are hurting, too, and recognizes the trauma they must be experiencing as a result of the shooting.
“They have to be hurting for what they had to do and that’s what they have to do in a job,” Rauch tearfully told reporters. “I want people to know they’re loved… I want to hug them. I want everybody else to hug them. They need it. We need it.”
Friends of the family have put together a gofundme account for funeral expenses.
